HabitatforHumanity

Growing up, I had the opportunity to help out with remodel projects around my house, so when we were told to volunteer for Habitat for Humanity, I was very excited. Before being an interior design student, I didn't know there was such a program where you could help others through the skills interior design offers. I love to volunteer my time, and being able to do so with the knowledge I have as an interior design student and growing up at home, was one of the best experiences I've had in a long time.

I really enjoyed doing the hands on work in helping to create the house. Although the insulation was very itchy, it felt great knowing that I was helping out with the family. Also, it was a nice surprise to have been served delicious sandwiches for lunch. I believe I was able to get closer to my fellow interior design peers with this project and overall be apart of such a great volunteer program.

While on our trip to Seattle, we had the oppertunity to job shadow at design firms. The firm I job shadowed at was NBBJ. I job shadow a friendly woman by the name of Grace. She gace me a tour of the firm as well as showed me a few projects she had been apart of, similar to the hospital NBBJ worked on in Arizona pictures below. What I found as a complete shocker was how much work she did was very similar to the things we do in studio. Seeing this made me realize that everything I'm doing know will actually be beneficial throughout my career.

Overall, the job shadow really helped me realize that Interior Design is the career I want to continue to grow in throughout my lifetime. I love every aspect about it and can't wait to continue to network with more Interior Designers and the people who associate with them.

SeattleTrip_SeattleUniversityChurch_sketches

While my interior design class took a trip to Seattle, WA, we had the oppertunity to view the church on the Seattle University campus. This church had beautiful natural lighting, which was the creators purpose to represent the light coming from God. These are a few sketches I drew while there.

I really enjoyed having the chance to be in such a peaceful place. The designer did an amazing job in capturing his concept of light throughout the space.

ID201_wheelchairassignment

For this assignment, we were asked to work with a partner in manuveuring around Daggy and Carpenter Hall in a wheel chair. The purpose of this was to get a different perspective on what everyday struggles someone in wheel chair faces. I liked doing this activity becayse it really opened my eyes to viewing spaces in a new way. For example, the large hill that my fellow classmates and I walk up everyday, is steep and difficult to walk up and going in a wheel chair was much worse. Lots of the spaces we went to were not wheel chair accessible and much of the places that were wheelchair accessible, they were not very generous with the space given and barely met minimum requirements. After doing this assignment, I will definately take ADA requirements seriously because I know if I ever had a disability, I would want the same accessible experience as everyone else.

contextposter_adaptivereuse_groupproject

For the context poster assignment, we were asked to work with another student and research about a given topic, our being adaptive reuse. I found this to be a very fun and interesting project since our topic was a field of interior design that I would like to be apart of. I enjoyed searching for the case studies and it was nice to have begun working with adobe indesign as start to the semester.

Project 4 Bench Poster

This poster was created in order to show our process work through our bench project in ID 102. I'm glad I was able to create this poster. It was nice to see my caotic work process organized so I could easily explain and show people my work without confusing them. I like the layout of my design for this poster and enjoyed following guidelines so everything is organized neatly and evenly on the page.

Resume

Here is my resume I created for this assignment

For this assignment, we were ask to create a resume, cover letter and refrence page in order to gain a better understanding on how to properly organize information. We also were taught what should and should not be placed on these documents so they are as professional as can be. This assignment was similar to some that I have done while in high school but I enjoyed creating this resume more since it was focused towards my actual career goals. I also found it fun to be able to incoporate aspects of my logo to make my resume stand out a little more without over powering the purpose of sharing any experience that a future employee would like to see.

My Logo

This is the design I came up with for a logo to represent me and my work as an interior design student. The purpose for this assignment was to work with the Adobe Illustrator to get a better understanding of what we could create with the given tools. I enjoyed working with Adobe Illustrator and having the oppertunity to learn more computer skills that will be beneficial to me later on in my design career.

197SP11pattern,textile

This textile I created I feels represents my African heritage with the geometric pattern used similar to other African textiles I observed online. The city skyline I added to the pattern allowed me to change up the traditional aspects a bit more in order to represent myself better.

Here is my overall presentation of my textile in its repetitive format. Overall, I like how the pattern turned out, however, the images I used when editing were a bit too small making the overall presentation too pixelated, so learning from this I will be sure to next time, pay attention to the sizes of the images I use so in the end, I will haev the results I'm looking for in a project.

197SP11pattern

Here is my take on a project where we were asked to take several images and distort them until it would be difficult to match them with the original image. After doing this project, I gained a lot of knowledge on how to work with photoshop again, as well as what kind of work can come out of manipulating the photo of a common item to look artistic.
