ID197 Spring 11 Sketches

The back of my sketch book.

This final sketch is of items found outside since the whether finally started improving in Pullman. Using commone plants found around campus and turn the object into a work of art by creating four 3x3 vignettes. I like the overall outcome of my sketches and really enjoyed doing all of these sketches throughout the semester.

For this sketch I was suppose to draw common items that would be normally placed on a kitchen counter as well as one random item. In this case my random item I choose was a 'LEGO' person that I played with as a child and would use around the house and play with at the table when eating breakfast on the weekends.

For this sketch I used a corner room from Stephenson in order to practice line weight to show the value of space and the difference in using high contrast value line weight. I wish I could of used a space with more lighting and furniture to sketch in order to get a better understanding of the difference such as the photo given as an example to the class.

In this photo, is a sketch where I filled the entire page in pencil then erased a negative space of a bottle of windex. I'm sure how I could use this technique in sketchning later on  however, I did enjoy trying out this unique way of sketching.

For this sketch we were ask to make a negative sketch of a chair by filling in the space around the chair rather than sketching the chair itself. I did this sketch wrong at first by skeching the figures aroung the chair but I received the oppertunity to try it again and it turned out well.

I loved doing this sketch. We were given a piece of black paper and asked to sketch a photo of a small architectural element. I sketched a phot of a hinge on my medicine cabinet and I love how it truned out using the different colors even though they are not the actual colors of the cabinet itself.

Here we were asked to do a sketch of a moving figure and in this case, I traced a photo of my father walking onto a cruise ship heading to our vacation. I found this to be a challenging sketch in trying to avoid going into too much detail yet still allowing people to be able to tell it is a male adult walking. I think I need more practice with this kind of sketching.

This sketch was very new and interesting to me in being able to trace as well as free hand sketch figures to help represent the proportions a space my have in comparison to people. I would like to take more time in practicing this skill.

For this sketch, we were ask to create a sketch of cut fruit in which I chose an apple and pear from my lunch one day. I was excited to do this sketch in order to practice my different style of sketching more. I think it would have been more fun to sketch a bit more complicated fruit as well as add color to focus more attention on the detail of the fruit.

For this assignment, we were asked to sketch an interesting chair and draw it from several views. I chose to use a chair from one of the Stephenson lounges. I enjoyed sketches this chair in several ways to improve my skills in order to show an idea or object from different angles so someone with less design experience has options in understanding a concept.

This was an interesting assignment in sketching our dorm on a napkin. I found it to be silly at first but then thought it to be useful when it come to being in a situation where you have something in mind or need to explain and idea to someone and all you have is something random like a napkin. I believe this assignment's purpose is to be creative with what materials you are given as well as being able to sketch or express an idea as soon as possible.

For this sketch we were ask to think of the first thing that came to mind and then begin to write down everything that came to mind afterwards. This was to help show what things can come to mind when it comes to brain storming and this was one of my favorite assignments to do because I find brainstorming very important in order to figure out what to do when coming up with a way to create project

In this sketch we were asked to sketch the corner of a room to show the nature of the shadows and textures of the ceiling, wall and flooring. This sketch was a bit challenging in using the correct proportions as well as showing the dimensions of the space.

Here is a sketch where we were as to hatch sketch some fruit. Again, my skills in hatch sketching aren't so great and I have to pay attention so I don't accidentally change my sketching technique, but overall I like how this one turned out.

Here is the first sketch we did in class of our set of keys. Here we were suppose to hatch sketch and although I find sketching to be easy, I still need to get used to the technique of specific types of sketches for different projects.

Here's my concept statement and I believe it speaks for itself.

This is an image of the cover for my sketch book created as one of our final projects for Spring Semester. The rest of the images posted will be the sketches in order from first to last therefore the most recent sketches posted first.
